$13,388.50.
There’s nothing like your innocent son bringing the mail to you, with a letter addressed to him… a letter denying his medication, for the 5th time.
As we fight this what seems like a continuous battle, with endless tears and constant worry, we are left to problem solve again.
Through denials we have been able to appeal and win in the past, but this last appeal has been more difficult than normal… resulting in countless emails (200+), letters, and multiple phone calls, communication with the doctor, the insurance company, the specialty pharmacy, the bank, and Cost Plus Drugs. Scrambling to get medication so he doesn’t miss a dose.
Cost Plus Drugs (a Mark Cuban company) graciously provides more affordable options for medication. They have even started to create this medication through their own facility, at a much cheaper cost ($2,000/month). Unfortunately, timing wasn’t in our favor and we couldn’t benefit from this option this time.
From the manufacturer they get a slight discount for Grayson’s medication… still at $75/pill (4 pills a day) it’s astronomical. We had no choice but to pay $13,388.50 for a 45 day supply. $13,388.50, the largest amount thus far. Gut wrenching.
Thankfully, with our gracious community (thank you!) and national support we are able to purchase, but we are hopeful insurance will hear our voice and do what’s right - for them to understand a doctor prescribed this medication, there’s data that it helps, and this is what he needs. Through everything Grayson has to deal with, please just let him have his medicine. If they could have just 10 minutes with Grayson, they’d realize the value of our boy.
